"Google-dirty fingers" has got to be the best euphemism coined this decade. And somebody's got to finesse that into a librarian-y t-shirt. Get to work, you lot.

*foottap mc twinkle*

Giving a presentation today. Nervous-excited, but mostly the latter. Also, get to go to a part of the city don't normally frequent; am always saying how I want to travel more, see new places. This is a nice way to start on a small scale.

In the dinner follies: chop an onion, chop a pepper, slice a zucchini. Saute in a little oil. Add a can of diced tomatoes, juice and all. Saute about 5 min. or so, then throw in a package of soy crumbles. Grind black pepper and sprinkle basil over all to taste. Saute the lot until the soy's cooked through (shouldn't take long) and serve over rice or couscous. Consume by candlelight with catlike footman dancing attendance, and to the strains of Pandora channel of choice.

You know how you know you've made a good spending decision? When you make the purchase, you feel good about it. Your heroine has decided to treat herself to a night at the opera, and feels really good about it. Have never been to an opera, and they're showing Aida, so, why not? Was thinking about Eve, from Bailey's Cafe, and how she walked into New Orleans "neither male nor female, mud." But she knew right there and then she could choose what to be when she walked out. Have decided I want to be the sort of woman who goes to the opera alone if she wants to, the sort of woman people look at and wonder about. So you will hopefully get to read more about my adventures as I try to become that kind of woman.

Of course, if anybody wants to go to the opera with me in future, squeak up. I just think it's really important right now that I sort of court myself, as it were. Get to know myself all over again. That probably sounds silly, but it's true.

Poem du jour = Findings. All the little things, so lovely.

On the local front, this made me sad, for reasons I can't even begin to get into right now. Why is it that the right course of action in business so often screws over entire flocks of people? I wouldn't say these people were my friends, but I've met them, socially, and think it's absolutely horrible.

*sighs*

More on pharmaceuticals in the drinking water. It's not funny, but I laugh, a tad bitterly, because, well, it's water. It's not like we can stop drinking it; and since the damage is already done, probably...

*shrugs*

Hydrated and bull-goose looney, that's your heroine.

*eyeroll*

All righty, time to remote-test and fuss a little. The sun is shining, the air is crisp, and it appears to be a day of adventure and pleasant surprises. We shall see.

That is industriously all.

It is horrible. People who make this decisions don't think of the impact on people, or else they don't care. We had a great station in Fairmont in the 90s with a lot of good DJs -- but then the owner fired them and went to a canned music format. And it has happened with many other local stations, too.

It's frustrating, and yes, on this one, it's kind of personal. Still, the business solution seems to always involve what makes money for the corporation, and never takes into account what's best for actual breathing humans.

Besides, corporate radio has it all wrong about what people really want to hear. Pandora, LastFM, and other stations of their ilk do as well as they do because they consider the Long Tail of music, as opposed to just the comet burst of hits at the top of the charts.

Classic rock stations seem to be a pleasant exception to this rule. A little Zep, a little Doors, a little Rush, a little Skynrd, and everybody's happy...

You might be interested in <a href="http://www.christinelavin.com/index.php?page=songs&display=23>this song</a>. I found it on a CD of songs from some folk festival when I was about 12 (along with songs called "Daughters of Feminists" and "Bald-headed Men." Karen

Okay, I forgot a quotation mark so you'll have to copy and paste. Sorry.

You've never been to the Opera? Srsly? My dog, woman, what's taken you so long?

Aida's a good one to start with - it was my first too. KittenMom took me to it when I was a wee Kitten. Let me know what you think.

Who in my life would have ever exposed me to opera, dear? I never went to the ballet until we had that field trip for Western Heritage, my first year of college...

Anyway, I'm really excited about it! Picked out a special outfit to wear, and am probably taking myself out, afterwards, for coffee and some ridiculous dessert. ;)

what's in your drinking water?
I'm trying to make allowances since it seems to be a transcript of an interview, but really:

there are certain kinds of cancer that are prone to estrogen,

Cancer causes estrogen?

Re: what's in your drinking water?
I see what you mean; I read that as him clumsily saying some kinds of cancer respond to estrogen, but I'm gonna wait for a ruling from one of our resident medicos, here...
